Waka/Ciimaan/VakaWaka means canoe in three of our languages, and implies the understanding that the waters of the world connect us, and what affects the Maori in Aotearoa affects the First Nations of Canada. It speaks to the global crisis that faces all people, the destruction of the environment, global warming and the commodification of water. Underlying these global issues is the understanding that everything is connected. And from this shared understanding across oceans, resources and tools are gathered, skills are put to use and Waka/Ciimaan/Vaka is built, offering a vision into the future as it cuts through the water.
